In 1834, the town of Westfield began its journey of becoming the thriving city that it is today. In May of 1834, the City of Westfield was laid out by Asa Bales, Nathan Parker, and Ambrose Osborne, the next men to try their fortune in the area. Westfield has a Quaker background, as it was greatly influenced by the Friends Church (Quaker).

There are three main reasons that Westfield became a prosperous town: Westfield established one of the first schools in the area with the opening of Union High School Westfield, as an anti-slavery town, was an important station on the Underground Railroad. The townspeople were willing to dedicate their minds and bodies to hard work.

Historically, the people of Westfield have shown a sense of caring and community concern. The Chamber wishes to continue the act of caring by being available to serve the community through business support and community awareness.
